21st December 2009 - Police in western Poland raided university student dormitories on 15th December and seized 37 computers that are believed to have been used to illegally distribute large amounts of copyright infringing content on the DirectConnect file-sharing network.
The students who owned the computers are now subject to a criminal investigation. Jan Baldyga, anti-piracy co-ordinator at ZPAV, the body that represents the recording industry in Poland, said: “This action shows Polish police take the illegal distribution of copyright infringing content very seriously. It also shows some university networks are being used to disseminate infringing material with impunity.” |
