18.10.2010 Atlanta, Georgia - A major Federal case against a raw materials supplier, CD-R burner operations and distributors of pirate CDs throughout the southeast United States has resulted in the conviction of two defendants after a six-day trial in United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. RIAA’s Carlos Linares testified for the prosecution. This case involved a long-term and complex investigation lead by the FBI and local law enforcement that initially resulted in the indictment of thirteen individuals involved in the conspiracy. Six of the defendants previously entered pleas. One defendant still faces trial next year, charges dropped against two defendants, one defendant was acquitted and two remain fugitives. The operations, which were shut down in 2009, were responsible for burning and distributing thousands of CD-R’s per week and hundreds of thousands of CD-R’s a year for several years. |
