Danish Court Confirms Pirate Bay is Illegal and Orders Access to be Blocked by ISP
- Ruling comes weeks before criminal prosecution in Sweden –
London, 27th November 2008 - Music companies internationally today welcomed a landmark Danish ruling involving the world’s best known pirate distributor of music, books and films. The decision confirms the illegality of Sweden’s Pirate Bay and requires a Danish ISP to implement measures to block access to the site.

New organisation to represent industry

Recording Industry Welcomes Arrest of British DJ on Suspicion of Music Piracy

Madrid, 19th June 2008 - The recording industry today welcomed news that the Guardia Civil in Spain have arrested a commercial DJ on suspicion of music piracy.
The British man, a resident of Mallorca, is alleged to have been selling illegal copies of DJ mix albums. The allegations focus on the suspected sales of large numbers of illegal copies of these albums to some of the 200 bars and clubs there.

Finnish Court of Appeal confirms: Operators of Finnish BitTorrent network found guilty of copyright infringement
Helsinki, 19th June 2008
12 operators of the Finreactor peer-to-peer-network were convicted today by the Turku Court of Appeal in Finland. Finreactor was a BitTorrent network that had 10,000 registered users. The National Bureau of Investigation Finland raided the site in December 2004. District Court of Turku convicted in October 2006 fourteen operators for copyright offences and seven for aiding for copyright offences. The operators were in charge of the technical operation of the system as well as the user control. The convicted defendants were ordered to pay compensation, damages and expenses of €566,000 to the right holders.

IFPI Welcomes Arrest of DJ Over Sale of 150 Pre-Release Albums
London, 11th June 2008 – The international recording industry today welcomed the arrest by UK police of a man suspected of selling a vast quantity of pre-release albums on eBay, weeks before their official release.
The man, a DJ and music reviewer based in London, was arrested on suspicion of theft and money laundering. The case centres on the alleged sale of pre-release copies of albums by artists including Foals, Delays, Grand National and Kelly Rowland. It is believed that he used his position to obtain promotional copies of albums from record companies which he then sold on.

Officers of GDCOC and the Haskovo District Directorate of Police seized 4 servers, films and software freely made available to over 5 thousands ISP’s subscribers during an operation yesterday.
The illegal distribution of copyright content by a local ISP was cut off during a combined operation executed by officers of the Sector “Combat against Organized Crime” of Haskovo and operative officers of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Bulgaria.

Eight albums have achieved their first IFPI Platinum Europe Award in the first quarter of 2008. The awards mark their achievement in selling more than a million copies across Europe.
Alicia Keys, the American R&B musician, saw her 2007 album As I Am pick up its first IFPI Platinum Europe Award. The album, containing the singles No One and Like You’ll Never See Me Again, topped the charts in Italy and sold well across Europe.
