“The authorities in Bulgaria have taken down Torrentvalley.com, a major provider of torrent – services, that was distributing copyright infringing content” was reported in an IFPI official press-release. IPFI published for a first time a special material about Bulgaria, that was send to all national groups and IFPI members in the whole world, due to the successful activity of the Ministry of Interior and Cyber Crime Unit of Directorate “Counteraction to Organized and Serious Crimes” IFPI points out: “The serious and strong organized Cyber Crime Unit of the Ministry of Interior raided the premises where Torrentvalley.com’s servers were located and shut the site down, that have aided the distribution of more than one million files, containing copyright infringing files with music, movies, software and books”. The action was taken on 11th November, acting on evidence from BAMP /The Bulgarian Association of Music Producers/. “The decisive action by the authorities shows that Bulgaria is no haven for copyright abuse in Internet and makes efforts to protect the right of those involved in the creative industries.” Said Ina Kileva, executive director of BAMP. The operators of the service are now being investigated under article 172a of the Bulgarian penal code. |
