International Music Industry Welcomes New UK Anti-Piracy Law and Calls for Other Countries to Follow Suit |

London, 8th April 2010 - The international music industry today called for governments to take decisive legislative action to curb digital piracy following the passing of the landmark Digital Economy Act in the UK. IFPI, representing around 1400 major and independent record companies worldwide, said the newly-adopted UK legislation, requiring measures from ISPs to curb piracy on their networks, sets a powerful example to other countries.

Two Million Discs seized in Mexico |
Mexican law enforcement officers and military personnel conducted two major anti-piracy enforcement operations in March 2010. In the first, aimed at a cartel known as “Los Zetas”, the authorities raided five warehouses and five laboratories. The product seized by the authorities included 349 burners, 125,000 recorded CD-Rs and more than 200,000 recorded DVD-Rs.

London, 21 January 2010 - More than a quarter of all recorded music industry revenues worldwide are now coming from digital channels, as music companies license music in partnership with ISPs and mobile operators, subscription services, streaming sites and hundreds of download stores. However, despite the continuing growth of the digital music business – with trade revenues up 12% to an estimated US$4.2 billion in 2009 – illegal file-sharing and other forms of online piracy are eroding investment and sales of local music in major markets. |
